If you are going to listen to someone it is important to know where they are coming from. Here I’ve endeavored to provide a shortcut to getting to know me in that way.
What is a conviction? In its truest sense, a conviction is something one is found guilty of by way of evidence. A conviction of faith then, is an a set of ideas that I hold to be true that I would hope to be found guilty of by way of the evidence of my life.
This is a living document, because I am a living person. My faith, thankfully, is growing. As I continue to learn from Jesus, and be renewed, I will return to this document to update it. For now, this is what I attempt to act upon as if it were already true.
I believe in God the Father
- The Creator of all things (Genesis 1:1)
- Who is love (1 John 4:8)
- In whose image we are made (Genesis 1:26)
I believe in Jesus Christ
- Through whom all things were made (John 1:3)
- Who has been given all authority in heaven and earth (Matthew 28:18)
- Who was born of the Holy Spirit to Mary, a virgin (Matthew 1:18-25)
- Who lived a life experiencing all temptation as is common to man, yet was without sin (Hebrews 4:15)
- Who laid His life down – being lifted up on the cross, experienced death, and was buried – only to raise it again on the third day (John 10:18, John 19:17-38, John 20:1-21)
- Who currently sits at the right hand of the Father (Romans 8:34, Acts 2:33, Hebrews 3:12)
- Who is the only mediator between God and men (1 Timothy 2:5)
- That through Him, his body and blood, all sins are forgiven (Matthew 26:26-28, Hebrews 3:16-22, Ephesians 1:7)
- That by following Him we can enter into the reality of the Kingdom of God right now (John 14:6)
- That through Him we can experience eternal life (John 6:54, John 10:28, John 17:2-3)
I believe in the Spirit of God
- Who is sent to be with us forever, to remind, testify of Jesus, convict the world in regards to sin, righteousness, and justice, and guide in all truth (John 14:16, John 14:26, John 16:8, John 16:13)
I believe in the Kingdom of God
- God’s current and active will in heaven and on earth (Matthew 4:17, Matthew 6:10)
- That it is accessible to all people (Matthew 5)
- That it is seen and entered into by being born again (born of the Spirit) (John 3:3-7)
- That it is received by becoming like a child (Matthew 18:3, Mark 10:15, Luke 18:17)
