About Andrew
Mentored by Gregory Hines, Andrew Nemr is considered one of the most diverse tap dance artists today. An international performer, choreographer, educator and speaker, Andrew’s work explores tap dance as a vehicle for storytelling and community building. He has played with Grammy Award winning musicians across multiple genres, founded and directed the tap dance company Cats Paying Dues, co-founded the Tap Legacy™ Foundation, Inc. (along with Hines), and is currently the Artistic Director of the Vancouver Tap Dance Society.
In addition to his current work, Andrew was tapped to develop, and continues to consult for, the tap dance program at the McBurney YMCA (NYC). Formerly, Andrew has been on faculty at both Broadway Dance Center (NYC) and Steps on Broadway (NYC), adjunct lecturer at at Montclair State University and Queens College, and has toured internationally as an educator including Hong Kong, Taipei, Tokyo, London, Berlin, Barcelona, Stockholm, Costa Rica, Lebanon, and throughout the United States, at dance schools, festivals, conventions, and even a TED Conference!
Andrew’s teaching method combines real life analogies, historical references, progressive exercises, traditional content, and creative combinations to teach an integrated approach to tap dance. Andrew’s teachings are most heavily influenced by his work with Henry LeTang, Jimmy Slyde, Savion Glover, Ted Levy, Gregory Hines, and his study of the work of Steve Condos. Other influence has come from time spent with Harold Cromer, Dr. Bunny Briggs, Dr. James “Buster” Brown, LeRoy Myers, Ernest “Brownie” Brown, Henry “Phace” Roberts, Mable Lee, Tina Pratt, and Dianne Walker.

– Jennifer Kelble, Artistic Director, Driving Rhythm Tap
Andrew has been doing tap workshops for me every year, with my students ranging in ages 8-18. My students love his classes that are always well structured, motivating and educational. Andrew is truly a wonderful individual and I enjoy connecting with him every year and sharing our enthusiasm for the Art of Tap.
– Betsy Daily, Founder and Director, Betsy Daily School of Performing Arts
Andrew is the real deal. He is the perfect link to the past with his vast knowledge of the great Masters of tap (both dance-wise and personally); yet he is at the cutting edge of the future of tap with his rhythms, technique, and personal style. Andrew’s teaching methods can easily be comprehended by the most basic of beginners, and he can easily challenge the most advanced of tap artists. Everyone should jump at the opportunity to work with him!
